Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct and oversee traffic engineering design and analyses related to work zone traffic management, signage and pavement markings, traffic signal systems, lighting, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and traffic operational evaluations.
  • Manage and design various traffic-related initiatives.
  • Delegate tasks to other traffic engineering personnel.
  • Guide and mentor a team of Junior Traffic Engineers.
  • Collaborate with roadway, structures, hydraulics, and environmental teams within our Transportation division.
  • Prepare design specifications and cost assessments.
  • Engage with clients.
  • Support proposal development efforts.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is required; Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in traffic engineering.
  • Experience with VDOT, MDOT, and/or design-build projects is preferred.
  • Proficiency in MicroStation is required.
  • Leadership and project management skills are preferred.
  • Familiarity with analysis software such as Synchro, VISSIM, and SIDRA is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of VDOT and/or MDOT standards is preferred.
  • Ability to monitor project schedules and budgets.
  • Capability to lead and mentor junior traffic engineers.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
