Job Title: Behavioral Health Specialist

The Cook County Sheriff's Office is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Behavioral Health Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Programs Department, you will work with a multidisciplinary team to engage individuals in custody in programs and assist them with care coordination in the community post-release.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess individuals in custody for determination of clinical, socio-emotional, and reentry service needs.
  • Provide focused intervention and consultation to CCSO staff to enhance their skills in providing effective management of impacted individuals in custody.
  • Develop relapse prevention plans and help individuals maintain stability.
  • Establish a supportive, motivational, and therapeutic relationship with individuals in custody.
  • Plan, organize, and lead structured programs, including individual and group therapeutic services.
  • Guide individuals in custody in developing skills to assist in dealing with specific problems.
  • Collaborate with other service organizations or entities within and outside the Cook County Sheriff's Office.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or higher degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Two or more years of full-time, professional work experience in the mental health field.
  • One or more years of full-time, professional work experience in conducting mental health assessments on adult populations.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's or higher degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Active state licensure as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and/or a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).
  • Certification as a Certified Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Counselor (CADC).
