GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Parks and Wildlife Department is seeking a dedicated Seasonal Maintenance Technician I to join our team. This role is essential for the upkeep and enhancement of our state parks.

Under the guidance of the Site Manager and daily supervision from the Maintenance Supervisors, the technician will engage in entry-level maintenance and construction tasks. Responsibilities include:

  • Conducting preventative maintenance through cleaning and inspecting facilities, vehicles, and grounds.
  • Performing repairs and upkeep on various park assets.
  • Operating a range of equipment, including mowers, trimmers, power tools, tractors, and vehicles.
  • Providing assistance to park visitors and disseminating information regarding park regulations.

This position requires close supervision, allowing for limited initiative and independent judgment. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary, and compliance with all agency regulations is mandatory.

NOTE: This is a temporary, full-time position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of 8th Grade.

Experience: At least six months of experience in general grounds maintenance, facilities upkeep, or equipment servicing.

Licensure: Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Texas class C driver's license within 30 days of employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High School diploma or GED.

Experience: Experience in public interaction.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Understanding of general facility, building, and grounds maintenance techniques.
  • Familiarity with landscaping and grounds upkeep methods.
  • Knowledge of custodial practices.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematics.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to safely operate hand and power tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Competence in using a personal computer for report preparation.
  • Capability to deliver customer service in a professional manner.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment with minimal supervision.
  • Teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to safety protocols.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work will take place in a public park setting.
  • 40 hours per week, with varied schedules beyond standard business hours.
  • Responsiveness to emergency situations and public service requests is required.
  • Outdoor work is expected, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.
  • Travel may be necessary, including potential overnight stays.

All employees must adhere to the department's dress and grooming standards, work rules, and safety procedures.
