Job Title: Senior Epidemiology Nurse

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Epidemiology Nurse to join our team at the Virginia Department of Health. As a key member of our public health team, you will play a critical role in protecting and promoting the health of Virginians.

Job Summary:

The Senior Epidemiology Nurse will work closely with our epidemiology team to investigate and respond to public health events, including outbreaks and disease surveillance. You will be responsible for conducting epidemiologic investigations, analyzing data, and developing recommendations to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct epidemiologic investigations and analyze data to identify trends and patterns
  • Develop and implement strategies to prevent and control the spread of infectious diseases
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers, laboratories, and other stakeholders to gather information and coordinate responses
  • Provide non-supervisory leadership and serve as a nursing program expert in one or more nursing services/programs district wide
  • Develop program goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, and report program performance to funding sources and agency staff
Requirements:
  • Must be certified in Basic Life Support (BLS)/CPR and able to be fit tested and perform fit testing for other staff
  • Requires licensure as an RN in Virginia
  • Experience functioning in a leadership role and ability to function independently in the home/clinic/community/school settings and prioritize workload
  • Exercises sound nursing judgment and effective verbal, written, interpersonal/physical assessment skills
  • Experience and ability to enter, review, analyze data and statistics and produce reports and/or recommendations from such information
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Public health experience
  • Certified in Infection Control (CIC) and experience in hospital or long-term care facility infection control
  • Experience in conducting communicable disease investigations
