Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Food & Nutrition Associate to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a key member of our food service team, you will play a vital role in ensuring the highest quality patient meal service experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist dietitians in monitoring patient meal service, including patients who are NPO, on liquid diets, or require calorie counts.
  • Collect patient meal selections using wireless tablets and CBORD software, and assemble patient trays in the main kitchen.
  • Deliver trays to patients using two patient identifiers for safety, and check each tray for accuracy and appearance before serving.
  • Collect soiled patient trays after mealtimes and return them to the dish room.
  • Assist in stripping trays and preparing for washing, as needed, and maintain adequate sanitation of meal service carts.
  • Verify all charges to the patient's bill are accurate and timely during end-of-day closing procedures.
  • Handle diet requests sent by nursing units in a timely manner, following established departmental procedures.
  • Participate in area and departmental meetings, education sessions, and staff development programs as appropriate.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • 2 years prior cold food production experience in a healthcare setting or related experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, including verbal, reading, and writing abilities.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to interact with patients, family, and hospital personnel in a positive and responsive manner.
  • Ability to lift, push, pull carts, pallets, food supplies, and disposable supplies (occasionally up to 50 pounds, frequently up to 30 pounds, and continuously up to 10 pounds).
Working Environment

The work environment involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises. Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be provided.
