About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Patent Legal Specialist to join our team at Air Products. As a key member of our Intellectual Property department, you will play a critical role in supporting our patent prosecution activities and ensuring the smooth operation of our patent-related processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administrative Support: Provide primary administrative support to our IP attorneys, patent agents, and IP paralegals, including managing paper files, processing invoices, and maintaining our IP docketing system.
  • Patent Filing and Prosecution: Prepare and file patent applications, office action responses, petitions, and other necessary documents electronically via Patent Center (USPTO) or ePCT online portal.
  • Correspondence and Communication: Correspond with external patent counsel/agents and other support services to provide instructions, obtain translations, arrange for notarization or legalization of documents, and determine the course of action for incoming correspondence.
  • IP Docketing and Record-Keeping: Work within our IP docketing system (Foundation IP) to enter and search for information, create and run reports, and maintain and manage attorney docket reports.
  • Financial Management: Process requests for payments to USPTO and EP deposit accounts.
  • General Administrative Support: Provide general administrative support, including making travel arrangements, preparing expense reports, managing calendars, ordering supplies, proofreading documents, drafting correspondence for attorney review, and preparing legal documents.
Requirements
  • Experience: At least five years' experience as a patent administrative assistant or paralegal, preferably in a corporate law department.
  • Technical Skills: Experience with the USPTO's electronic filing systems (e.g., Patent Center, Assignment Center, Certified Copy Center) and the ePCT online portal, as well as IP docketing systems and IP-related databases.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent attention to detail, strong organizational and prioritization skills, and able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with minimal-to-no supervision.
  • Education: High school diploma, GED, or college degree.
