Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled School Nurse to provide one-on-one healthcare services to students with special needs in Gaston County Schools. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nursing, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive school nursing services to designated students, including routine and emergency care.
  • Develop and implement individualized health care plans for students with special needs.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and other healthcare professionals to ensure students receive the best possible care.
  • Document procedures and communicate with caregivers and the Department for Exceptional Children.
  • Conduct medical case findings, screenings, and referral activities related to health defects of selected students.
  • Initiate program changes as needed and manage program allotment efficiently.
  • Prepare health reports for supervisors, the board of education, and the health department.
  • Provide first aid care and medically prescribed services.
  • Maintain security of school health supplies and provide staff development on health-related topics.
  • Assess the needs of students and develop a plan to meet those needs.
Requirements
  • Minimum of Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Hold current unencumbered license as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina.
  • Two years nursing experience preferred, with successful experience in School Nursing a plus.
