Position Overview:

This role is eligible for our Nursing Support Incentive Program, which offers $5,000 distributed over a three-year commitment.

Role Summary:
The Clinical Support Specialist II plays a crucial role in assisting healthcare professionals in delivering exceptional patient care within the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU). This unit is part of the UNC Center for Health and Vascular Care, dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients with cardiac and vascular conditions.

Work Schedule:
This is a full-time position, requiring 36 hours per week with 12-hour rotating shifts (7am-7:30pm and 7pm-7:30am), including weekends and holidays.

Attendance at a week-long orientation (Monday through Friday, 7:30am-5:00pm) is required, offered bi-weekly.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist healthcare providers during routine examinations and procedures, ensuring the availability of necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Monitor patient care documentation, noting significant changes in patient conditions, and promptly report to registered nurses or physicians.
  • Perform various clerical tasks, including organizing workloads, greeting visitors, researching information, reviewing orders for accuracy, transcribing physician orders, and maintaining medical records.
  • Support administrative functions, including quality assurance audits and data entry.
  • Provide clinical support by maintaining a clean work environment, troubleshooting equipment issues, and assisting with patient transport and supply management.
  • Deliver direct personal care to patients as outlined in care plans, including bathing, dressing, feeding, and monitoring vital signs.
  • Reinforce patient education provided by registered nurses or physicians and document patient comprehension of instructions.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must be listed as Nursing Assistant II with the North Carolina Board of Nursing and Nursing Assistant I with the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certifications are required.
  • One year of clerical or customer service experience, along with six months of relevant nursing assistant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Fluency in verbal and written English is essential, with the ability to develop computer skills if necessary.

Work Environment:
This position is employed by UNC Health Care System and is based in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit.
