Minimum Qualifications
The Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office is actively seeking both seasoned and entry-level candidates for our forthcoming training academy.
Entry-level recruits will commence at a salary of $56,741.

Candidates with prior experience in law enforcement, corrections, or military security will be evaluated for salaries that reflect their background within the range of $56,741 - $57,857.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old if currently serving in the military, or at least 20 years old otherwise; possess a high school diploma or GED; and provide proof of any relevant prior experience if applicable. A valid driver's license and U.S. citizenship are required.

Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential. A current valid driver's license with a clean driving record is mandatory. According to the Virginia DMV point system, applicants must not have accumulated six or more demerit points in the past twenty-four months, nor any major violations in the last thirty-six months.

Pre-employment drug screening, an FBI criminal background check, and verification of education and qualifications are prerequisites.

This role involves working in high-security environments governed by the U.S. Department of Justice's "Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Security Policy," necessitating a stringent criminal background check.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens or lawful residents for the past ten consecutive years.




EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:
Successful completion of a physical agility test, written examination, FBI background check (including driving and criminal history), polygraph test, panel interview, psychological evaluation, and medical examination is required.

Duties

The role entails ensuring a safe and secure environment for employees, citizens, and inmates at various facilities; enforcing all applicable laws of Virginia; serving legal documents; transporting inmates to and from correctional facilities; operating under high-stress conditions; maintaining proficiency in firearms, driving, and defensive tactics; investigating and documenting criminal incidents; assisting motorists in need; providing emergency resources during crises; and serving as a law enforcement resource during disasters or emergencies.

Additional responsibilities include enforcing state and local regulations and providing certified search and rescue capabilities as required.
