Job Description

Key Responsibilities
  • Engineering Vision: Develop and own the vision for Whisker's technology roadmap, balancing short-term projects with long-term technical needs.
  • Spirit of Innovation: Collaborate with our founder and Chief Inventor Brad Baxter to identify new concepts and systems that secure our IP and technical future.
  • Cross-Discipline: Understand how electrical, mechanical, software, and embedded teams work together to deliver exceptional customer experiences.
  • Software: Advance our software capabilities in sensor fusion, machine learning, pet recognition, IoT connectivity, and in-app experience.
  • Sensor Technologies: Drive team-level investigations, research, and development of needed technologies for future products and experiences.
  • Team Development: Recruit, grow, and inspire our advanced technology team, developing team skills and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Concepting: Drive new ideas in products and rapid prototyping for first-level viability against ideas.
  • Execution Excellence: Deliver multiple products simultaneously without significant structure, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality technology solutions within budget constraints.
  • Metric-Driven: Enable, track, and adjust key metrics around our technology and device roadmap.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 10+ years of experience as a Senior Engineering Manager/Director/VP.
  • 10+ years of hardware development experience with at least 5 years in technology advancement and concepting in a consumer electronics environment.
  • 3+ years of leading roadmap technology deployment and building technology funnels.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer electronics hardware.
  • Experience with hardware sensing technologies.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple technologies and integration into devices.
  • Strong technical acumen to work problems alongside the team.
  • Excellent communication (verbal & written) and presentation skills.
  • Experience managing small teams for growth.
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to maintain a professional atmosphere in a fast-paced environment with numerous interactions and interruptions.
  • A high degree of initiative, self-motivation, and ability to motivate others.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with Team Members and colleagues.
  • Comfortable with office pets (cats, dogs).
