Role Overview
The Mechanical Engineer 3 will engage in progressively intricate mechanical, electrical, and field construction tasks. This role entails gathering and organizing data, creating estimates, and conducting systems and bid evaluations, all in alignment with JE Dunn's strategic vision and core values.

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in and uphold the company's safety and quality initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to maintaining an injury-free workplace.
  • Conduct entry-level mechanical, electrical, and field construction tasks.
  • Learn to create budgetary estimates for mechanical and electrical work based on program and schematic design information.
  • Assist in reviewing mechanical and electrical options during the preconstruction phase and perform systems analysis for selected projects.
  • Support the development of mechanical and electrical scopes of work for the bidding process.
  • Contribute to bid analysis and provide insights during the subcontractor selection process.
  • Help establish sequencing requirements for various systems to meet project timelines.
  • Gain familiarity with design documents to identify potential quality issues and assist in creating constructability review reports.
  • Conduct job inspections to ensure compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Assist with the shop drawing and submittal process to ensure adherence to contract documents.
  • Support the commissioning process by developing pre-functional checklists and testing procedures.
  • Foster a culture of diversity and inclusion within JE Dunn, adhering to our non-discrimination policy.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Handle increasingly complex mechanical, electrical, and field construction activities.
  • Develop budgetary estimates based on design information.
  • Review mechanical and electrical options, conduct systems analysis, and provide value engineering recommendations.
  • Coordinate mechanical and electrical scopes during the bidding phase.
  • Establish sequencing requirements for various systems and provide scheduling input.
  • Review design documents to identify quality concerns and assist in developing quality control measures.
  • Perform job inspections to ensure specifications are met.
  • Develop pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures, verifying contractor performance.
  • Review and approve shop drawings prior to submission to the design team.
  • Generate and submit the Commissioning Plan for necessary approvals.
  • Ensure that deficiencies are addressed and submit commissioning documentation.
  • Mentor less experienced colleagues.
  • Create innovative M/E tools and solutions to enhance processes and deliverables.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or a related field (required).
  • 5+ years of experience in construction and/or engineering (preferred).
  • Valid and unrestricted driver's license.
