This position reports to the Custodial Supervisor/Manager and is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the Exploratorium's facilities. The successful candidate will be able to work independently and as part of a team to ensure a safe and healthy environment for visitors and staff.
Key Responsibilities
• Operate and maintain custodial equipment, including floor machines, mops, and cleaning solutions
• Clean and maintain all custodial stations, including classrooms, office space, restrooms, entrance ways, work spaces, parking lots, and food service areas
• Collect and dispose of trash, recycling, and compost in a timely and efficient manner
• Dust, sweep, mop, and vacuum floors and surfaces
• Shampoo, scrub, steam clean, strip, wax, and seal floors and surfaces as needed
• Refill supplies, including paper dispensers and soap dispensers
• Clean and disinfect urinals, commodes, wash basins, partitions, windows, and walls
• Respond quickly to custodial messages and requests
Requirements
• 6 months of custodial experience and/or successful completion of basic custodial training
• Ability to read, write, and follow simple oral and written instructions
• Ability to lift and carry 35 pounds, push and pull 50 pounds, bend and kneel, reach, move from place to place, twist at the waist, and climb and work on ladders
What We Offer
This is an on-call position with variable hours and no benefits. The starting rate for this role is $22.90, which is the step 1 of a 6-step union pay scale.
