Your Contribution: In this role, you will spearhead credit evaluations for entities within the Americas Public Finance sector, which may encompass ratings for states, municipalities, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, housing authorities, public utilities, and transportation organizations. Your responsibilities will include engaging with issuers, analyzing historical and projected data, and synthesizing this information into comprehensive committee presentations and insightful written analyses. You may also engage in moderately complex analytical tasks, assist in addressing client needs, participate in investor discussions alongside senior analysts, and contribute to research for publications or special projects. As you advance in your career, opportunities may arise for you to present at conferences, author opinion pieces, or engage with the media.

Key Responsibilities: This role is vital for maintaining our market relevance and fulfilling transaction requirements. Specifically, the analyst will:
  • Act as the primary analyst on credit transactions, crafting well-supported rating recommendations for rating committees, accompanied by clear reports that substantiate our credit assessments.
  • Participate actively as a voting member of the rating committee, which deliberates on rating outcomes and reviews materials prior to publication.
  • Produce timely and insightful credit reports while contributing to relevant research initiatives.
  • Exhibit a strong understanding of ratings criteria and financial statement analysis, while remaining informed on pertinent news and issues impacting credit quality in the municipal bond market.
  • Provide mentorship and analytical support to junior analysts.
Essential Qualifications:
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience, with a background in the municipal market being advantageous.
  • Capacity for independent and critical thinking, coupled with strong integrity, analytical curiosity, problem-solving, and research capabilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills for both internal and external audiences.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and demonstrated proficiency in quantitative analysis.
  • Adept at accurately interpreting data and applying criteria to derive key analytical insights and conclusions.
  • Ability to thrive in both team-oriented and independent work environments, with a willingness to learn and support team initiatives.
  • Proactive and organized, with exceptional time management skills to prioritize and meet multiple deadlines.
  • Strong grasp of financial reporting and markets, with familiarity with S&P's analytical products and services being a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and open to learning new applications or proprietary software.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA, MPA, MPP, JD, and/or CFA is preferred.
Compensation and Benefits:
For U.S. candidates, S&P Global indicates that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $85,700 to $150,400. The final base salary will depend on geographic location, experience level, skill set, training, licenses, and certifications. In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan and additional S&P Global benefits.
