Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diesel Mechanic to join our team at the Town of Webster. As a Diesel Mechanic, you will be responsible for completing basic repairs to motor vehicles and equipment, with a focus on diesel engines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on diesel engines and equipment
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues with diesel engines and equipment
  • Work independently or as part of a repair team under limited supervision
  • Lead supervision may be exercised over Laborers or other staff assigned to assist with workload
Requirements
  • Three (3) years experience as a diesel mechanic
  • Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma, plus one of the following:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Automotive Mechanics, Automotive Technology, or a closely related field
  • Possession of a Certificate from a technical institute or college in one of the fields listed above
  • Two (2) years paid experience as a journeyman-level automotive mechanic
  • Five (5) years paid equivalent experience as an automotive mechanic or heavy equipment mechanic under the supervision of a journeyman-level mechanic
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience as defined by the limits of above
Special Requirements
  • Possession of a valid New York State Class B commercial driver license at the time of appointment
  • Background Checking: Applicants will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation, physical, driver license check, and drug testing
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must have a clean driver's license
  • Requires ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions
