Key Responsibilities:

The Regulatory Compliance Counsel will be instrumental in delivering legal guidance and support across a broad spectrum of regulatory and compliance issues. This role necessitates a versatile attorney capable of managing general responsibilities while concentrating on ensuring that our products and operations adhere to relevant laws and regulations.

  • Develop expertise in applicable state and federal laws concerning dealership compliance, particularly in data security, privacy, consumer finance, and safety.
  • Conduct thorough legal research on pertinent laws, regulations, and judicial precedents.
  • Collaborate closely with the product development team, providing legal insights throughout the product lifecycle, from initial concept to market launch, ensuring compliance.
  • Establish yourself as a thought leader in your field by drafting articles, guides, and other educational materials, and by presenting to dealers, legal professionals, and other stakeholders on compliance matters.
  • Manage general legal affairs, including contract drafting and review, governance, intellectual property, employment law, and dispute resolution.
  • Stay informed about emerging technologies and trends in the automotive industry to foster innovation and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school is required, with a minimum of 5 years of experience in-house or at a law firm (experience in regulatory and compliance matters is preferred).
  • Admission to the bar in at least one state, with the capability to obtain in-house counsel registration.
  • Adaptability and a readiness to engage in various tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Capacity to work independently, maintain regular attendance, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrated integrity, effectiveness, efficiency, and professionalism in all duties.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the automotive dealership sector and/or expertise in privacy and cybersecurity is preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations regarding privacy, data security, consumer finance, and safety, particularly within the automotive dealership context.
  • Familiarity with the FTC Act and various FTC rules applicable to dealerships, as well as state privacy laws such as CCPA and federal OSHA regulations.
