POSITION PURPOSE:

The Elevator Systems Technician is responsible for executing advanced tasks related to the repair, upkeep, and programming of elevators and chairlifts within the Wake County Public Schools facilities. This role encompasses providing specialized technical support during the construction and installation of new and replacement elevator systems. The technician will also offer guidance and mentorship to less experienced staff, ensuring that all equipment operates at peak performance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)
  • In-depth expertise in the maintenance and repair of elevator systems and chairlifts;
  • Strong understanding of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Excel;
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving capabilities;
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, utilizing various methods to facilitate information exchange and collaboration;
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team, completing tasks without explicit direction;
  • Competence in performing mathematical calculations;
  • Skilled in diagnosing issues and executing repairs on elevator systems and chairlifts;
  • Ability to foster and maintain positive working relationships with school personnel, contractors, vendors, and external organizations.
EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
  • High school diploma or equivalent;
  • A minimum of ten years of relevant experience in elevator and chairlift installation and maintenance;
  • Experience in servicing elevator systems, including software updates;
  • Familiarity with various elevator manufacturers;
  • A combination of education and experience sufficient to effectively perform the essential duties of the position.
CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS
  • Possession of a valid Electrical License (SP-EL) and/or recognized certifications;
  • Completion of OSHA safety training within the first year of employment;
  • Must maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license as per state requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Certification from one or more elevator manufacturers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Conducts advanced maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of elevators and chairlifts within the school system.
  2. Provides specialized technical oversight during the construction and installation of new and replacement elevator systems across all school facilities.
  3. Offers guidance and support to less experienced staff, contributing to their training and development.
  4. Ensures optimal performance of all elevator systems and chairlifts.
  5. Responds to work orders related to elevator systems; identifies issues and implements corrective actions to resolve them.
  6. Replaces malfunctioning or defective elevator systems and chairlifts.
  7. Maintains accurate records, work logs, and reports as necessary.
  8. Adheres to all applicable laws, regulations, and safety procedures established by the school system.
  9. Ensures compliance with safety protocols and maintains a secure working environment.
  10. Performs additional related duties as assigned.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position operates in both indoor and outdoor settings. The role frequently utilizes standard office equipment, including computers and hand/power tools. Interaction with school personnel, contractors, vendors, and external organizations is common. The work is physically demanding, requiring the ability to exert up to seventy-five pounds of force. The position also necessitates the operation of automotive equipment and may involve exposure to hazardous materials, gases, chemicals, moving parts, and varying weather conditions.
