Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our team at the California Governor's Office of Emergency Services. As a key member of our Fire and Rescue Division, you will be responsible for performing a wide range of mechanical tasks, including repairs, maintenance, and construction of heavy equipment and fire apparatus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect and diagnose equipment to identify necessary repairs and corrective actions
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on heavy equipment, including diesel and gasoline engines, brakes, and hydraulic systems
  • Construct and modify special equipment, including body frames and running gear
  • Rebuild and test fire pumps, including centrifugal water pumps
  • Maintain an inventory of pump parts and components for shop use and field requisition
Requirements
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Class B with Tank endorsement and Air Brake endorsement
  • Minimum of 4 years of varied mechanical experience on gas and diesel-powered trucks or heavy construction equipment
  • Associate of Arts Degree in Heavy Equipment Maintenance, Diesel Mechanics, or Heavy Equipment Mechanics, or equivalent degree or certificate
Working Conditions

This position requires the ability to work under high levels of stress and make quick, accurate decisions based on agency policies and procedures. The position also requires the ability to work well with others and work varied shifts and overtime hours as needed.
