Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Substance Abuse Counselor/Counselor I to provide quality rehabilitative counseling services for Native American clients.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments on assigned clients, including pertinent health data, alcohol/drug history, emotional, cultural, nutritional, and social history.
  • Provide progress and discharge summaries to outside counselors and court/probation officers.
  • Ensure one-on-ones are conducted with clients weekly and progress is documented and revised as needed.
  • Monitor client files for program planning and provide documentation of program participation.
  • Communicate clients' special needs to all staff to ensure effective interaction.

Requirements:

  • Certification by CAADAC, NAADAC, IACC, or CAS as a Substance Abuse Counselor I or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire.
  • Three (3) or more years of sobriety; applicant may be asked to submit to drug testing as a condition of employment.
  • Adequate organizational, written, listening, and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Native American cultures and understanding of client issues.
  • Valid California Driver's License, proof of adequate insurance, and DMV printout.

Knowledge and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of substance abuse services and treatment programs.
  • Ability to work independently as an effective team member and meet project deadlines.
  • Willingness to attend and participate in training, seminars, workshops, and conferences to improve treatment, theories, case management skills, assessment, and maintenance of client files.
