Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team at Native Directions, Inc. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in substance abuse services and treatment programs, with a focus on Native American cultures and client issues.

Responsibilities:

Provide quality rehabilitative counseling services for Native American clients

Conduct assessments on assigned clients, including health data, alcohol/drug history, emotional, cultural, nutritional, and social history

Provide progress and discharge summaries to outside counselors and court/probation officers

Ensure one-on-ones are conducted with clients weekly, with progress documented and revisions made to support positive behavior modification

Monitor client files for program planning and provide documentation of program participation

Communicate clients' special needs to all staff to facilitate effective interaction

Requirements:

Certification by CAADAC, NAADAC, IACC, or CAS as a Substance Abuse Counselor I or ability to obtain certification within one year of hire

Three or more years of sobriety, with potential for drug testing as a condition of employment

Adequate organizational, written, listening, and verbal communication skills

Familiarity with Native American cultures and client issues

Valid California Driver's License, proof of adequate insurance, and DMV printout

Knowledge and Abilities:

Knowledge of substance abuse services and treatment programs

Ability to work independently as an effective team member and meet project deadlines

Willingness to attend and participate in training, seminars, workshops, and conferences to improve treatment, theories, case management skills, assessment, and maintenance of client files

Ability to cross-train and assume duties of other staff members in their absence
