Position Overview

GeoSearch is seeking a dedicated GIS Cadastral Mapping Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to geospatial data management and mapping.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interpretation of Documents: Analyze as-built drawings, construction plans, engineering documents, recorded maps, deeds, legal descriptions, surveys, and imagery to integrate them into GIS using techniques such as coordinate geometry (COGO), digitizing, and GPS.
  • Map Revision: Update existing Assessor GIS maps or create new ones utilizing Esri ArcGIS Pro and/or ArcGIS Desktop software to reflect new developments, subdivisions, easements, and boundary modifications.
  • Base Map Maintenance: Ensure the accuracy and comprehensiveness of base maps for assessment and other operational needs.
  • Information Provision: Offer assistance and information regarding assessment maps, mapping processes, ownership history, and technical aspects of map preparation through written communication and phone interactions.
  • Legal Description Translation: Convert legal descriptions into precise scale drawings of properties while identifying and reconciling discrepancies.
  • Data Accuracy: Conduct quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) processes, performing routine data management tasks to maintain GIS data integrity and completeness.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Geography, GIS, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred but not mandatory.
  • 2-5 years of experience working with cadastral data in an Esri GIS environment.
  • Strong knowledge of the Public Land Survey System.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting deeds, survey plats, and as-built documents.
  • Familiarity with Esri COGO tools.
  • Understanding of modern cartographic standards and principles.
  • Advanced skills in statistical analysis, mathematics, and methodologies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team.
  • Willingness to travel minimally as required.
