Position Overview
The primary role of the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is to deliver pre-hospital Basic Life Support (BLS) under various weather conditions, collaborating with fellow EMS personnel and functioning as a vital member of the patient care team under the guidance of an EMS Supervisor. This position involves assisting patients of diverse ages and backgrounds who are experiencing serious medical emergencies, utilizing age-appropriate equipment and techniques to safely assess, treat, lift, and transport patients to medical facilities, while ensuring all necessary documentation is completed and supporting efficient EMS operations in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Basic Life Support (BLS) to patients in emergency situations.
- Collaborate with EMS team members to ensure effective patient care.
- Safely assess and treat patients using appropriate techniques and equipment.
- Transport patients to medical facilities while maintaining a high standard of care.
- Complete all required documentation accurately and timely.
- Represent the organization positively and professionally in all interactions.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate for the Emergency Medical Technician position should possess a minimum of two (2) years of EMS experience, including two (2) years of driving experience with a clean driving record. It is preferred that candidates have completed the Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO) training course. Additionally, candidates should hold a valid Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or Basic Trauma Life Support (BTLS) provider card.
Candidates must be able to pass a medical evaluation and respirator fit test, and be capable of wearing an N95 particulate filter respirator mask in compliance with PEOSHA standards as a condition of employment. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are preferred, and prior experience with electronic medical records is advantageous.
Required Credentials
- Active and valid certification as an Emergency Medical Technician.
- Certification issued by the National Registry or relevant state authorities.
- Valid driver's license with appropriate driving privileges.
- American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers certification.
- Incident Command System (ICS) Level 100 certification.
- National Incident Management System (NIMS) Awareness certification.
Physical Requirements
The Emergency Medical Technician must maintain excellent physical fitness, capable of working in various environmental conditions and lifting patients as necessary. The role requires the ability to frequently lift up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift up to 125 lbs.
Work Environment
On a daily basis, the Emergency Medical Technician will be required to perform tasks that involve seeing, hearing, smelling, speaking, sitting, walking, lifting, driving, and communicating effectively in English. In certain situations, the EMT may need to kneel, crawl, climb, or jump. Occasionally, the EMT may work in challenging conditions such as disaster scenarios or hazardous environments.
