Job Overview

We are seeking a Part-Time Homeless Shelter Support Staff to join our team at My Place Home For The Homeless. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families experiencing homelessness.

About the Role

This is a part-time position that requires working on weekends, with varying shifts including 3pm-11pm and 11pm-7am. As a Homeless Shelter Support Staff, you will be responsible for providing support and crisis intervention to guests, while also maintaining the safety and security of the shelter property.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide trauma-informed care to guests, empowering them to achieve their goals and improve their well-being.
  • Offer resource information and triage questions to individuals and families served by the shelter, as well as those who call to inquire about services.
  • Communicate guest information to day staff to ensure a smooth transition of care.
  • Enforce shelter guidelines, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe and respectful environment.
  • Support guests with their shelter needs, including accessing hygiene supplies, cleaning materials, bedding, food, and more.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed care and crisis intervention principles.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team to provide comprehensive support to guests.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with diverse individuals and groups.
  • Basic maintenance skills, including changing light bulbs and plunging toilets, as needed.
  • Strong documentation skills, with the ability to accurately record incidents, task completion, and other relevant information.
