Deschutes Brewery is seeking a skilled and passionate Assistant Culinary Leader to become part of our team in Bend, OR. The ideal candidate thrives in a dynamic kitchen environment and is dedicated to upholding the highest standards of culinary excellence and presentation, with a focus on guest satisfaction. As a key member of our culinary team, the Assistant Culinary Leader will oversee Back of House (BOH) operations and staff, which includes managing food preparation, expediting, ordering, scheduling, cost control, training, and employee development. This is a full-time position with benefits that include medical, dental, vision, 401k, ESOP, and paid time off.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspire and guide all Back of House (BOH) personnel to uphold our quality benchmarks and presentation standards; instruct on cooking methods, food preparation, and plating techniques.
- Ensure the kitchen and equipment are maintained in a clean and organized manner.
- Coach and develop all BOH staff, ensuring adherence to Deschutes Brewery's quality standards.
- Supervise shifts and maintain effective communication with the Executive Chef.
- Availability to work weekends is required.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in line cooking, ideally in a high-volume, full-service environment.
- At least 2 years of experience in kitchen management is preferred.
- Possession of a valid Oregon food handler's card or Serve Safe certification.
- Must obtain a valid OLCC permit within 30 days of employment.
- A positive, outgoing, and supportive leadership style.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues and provide basic maintenance support for kitchen facilities.
- Proficient in Excel and familiar with common restaurant management software.
- Culinary education or equivalent experience in scratch and batch cooking is preferred.
