Job Summary

As a Paraprofessional Assistant, you will provide critical support to our special education team in the classroom. This role involves assisting with classroom organization, management, and the development of instructional materials. You will work under the general supervision of our instructional staff to ensure a positive and productive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist teachers in preparing educational materials for students, including lesson plans and instructional resources.
  • Work one-on-one with students or in small groups to reinforce learning objectives and provide additional support.
  • Contribute to the daily routine, including distributing and collecting supplies, maintaining attendance records, and grading quizzes as assigned.
  • Participate in lunchroom, recess, and bus duties to ensure a safe and orderly environment.
  • Assist with preparing and maintaining bulletin boards and other learning centers to enhance instruction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the appropriate administrator to support the educational program.
Requirements

Education
High School Diploma or GED equivalent is required. In lieu of a GED, two years (60 semester hours) of college coursework above the remedial level with a grade of 'C' or better at a GaPSC-accepted accredited institution is acceptable. Additionally, you must pass the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment with a minimum score of 250 within one year from the date of hire.

Certification/Licensure
You must be able to obtain the Georgia PSC Paraprofessional Certificate within one year from the date of hire.

Experience
0-1 year of experience is required. Classroom experience and/or proven ability to work with children is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Classroom experience and/or proven ability to work with children is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with students and adults.
  • Excellent organizational skills and flexibility.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written language of instruction is required for the Dual Immersion program.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information.
Working Conditions
  • Classroom environment.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to lift and carry 30-50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to push or pull a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • May require lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, stooping, or crouching.
  • Requires ability to move and control an adult-sized wheelchair.
  • Typically sitting, standing, walking.
