Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Family Support Specialist will be an integral member of the Guidance Center of Lea County's Home Visiting Program, dedicated to delivering family-centered assistance to those enrolled in home-based services. This role focuses on providing strength-based support, essential resources, advocacy, and crisis intervention, adhering to all relevant federal, state, and program regulations. The Family Support Specialist is tasked with delivering child development insights, educational curriculum, and family support during home visits to families with infants, toddlers, and expectant mothers. Collaboration with colleagues and community partners is essential to ensure comprehensive service delivery, assist in planning family events and parent meetings, and aid in the recruitment and registration processes. Accurate record-keeping and data management in line with the Home Visiting Program and the Guidance Center's Performance Standards are also key responsibilities.

The Home Visiting team is inherently multidisciplinary, consisting of licensed professionals with expertise in early childhood development and mental health, alongside non-degreed professionals who bring relevant experience and knowledge.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver thorough case management to a caseload of 12-20 home-based families.
  • Conduct regular home visits, either weekly or bi-weekly, tailored to the family's specific program enrollment.
  • Design and implement home-based educational experiences that effectively utilize the home visiting curriculum and foster child development.
  • Utilize assessments to pinpoint areas needing support and maintain an updated plan for each family.
  • Perform child development screenings and assessments as mandated by program standards.
  • Collaborate with community organizations to provide necessary support and resources for families to achieve their objectives.
  • Participate in community outreach and recruitment initiatives on behalf of the Home Visiting Program.
  • Ensure all case files and documentation are completed and maintained according to program standards.
  • Engage in monthly state-wide reflective case consultations.
  • Participate actively in supervision meetings and staff meetings for the Home Visiting Program.
  • Assist in organizing and executing family events and parent meetings.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to management, life skills, and parent education.
  • Stay informed about community resources and family-friendly activities.
  • Approach work from a strengths-based perspective, respecting each family's unique diversity.
  • Utilize personal transportation to deliver services efficiently.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding all client, staff, and organizational information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Home Visiting Supervisor, Program Manager, or Director of Community Services.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED or equivalent, with a commitment to pursue higher education in a related field as per Home Visiting standards.
  • Understanding of child development and appreciation for the social, economic, and cultural backgrounds of families.
  • Familiarity with program-specific areas such as health, parent education, or special education services.
  • Knowledge of prenatal care, infant/toddler safety and health, early childhood development, and mental health principles.
  • Experience in early childhood education, maternal/child health, child development, or public health.
  • Experience in prenatal, infant, and toddler mental health and cognitive development.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and follow through on assignments.
  • Ability to adapt to a flexible work environment while meeting deadlines and program standards.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Possess a valid and unrestricted driver's license.
  • Must use a personal vehicle for work-related duties.
  • Maintain valid automobile insurance.
  • Pass all required background checks and drug screenings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Fluency in both English and Spanish, both written and verbal.
