Position Title: Senior/Staff Mechanical Engineer, Endoscope and Catheter

Position Overview: The Senior Mechanical Engineer for Endoscope and Catheter will play a pivotal role in the design and introduction of endoscopic and catheter systems leveraging our foundational rigidizing technology. You will guide your designs through all phases, from concept development and engineering to clinical evaluations and market readiness. This role offers the opportunity to enhance cutting-edge composite rigidization technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adopt both experimental and analytical methodologies in creating specific designs for our rigidizing technology in robotic applications.
  • Engage with both conventional and innovative catheter/endoscope technologies, including:
    • Coiling, braiding, and laser-cut hypotubes
    • Extrusions and films
    • Steering and bending sections
    • Thermal and adhesive bonding
    • Coatings
  • Contribute to the formulation of specifications, testing methodologies, and protocols to ensure the functionality, safety, and effectiveness of medical devices in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Evaluate and propose solutions for complex design challenges at both component and system levels through inspection, testing, analysis, and experimentation.
  • Engage in hands-on construction and testing of multiple prototype iterations.
  • Apply Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles to minimize costs and streamline assembly processes.
  • Collaborate closely with suppliers.
  • Interact with healthcare professionals and users to validate assumptions and refine product definitions.
  • Develop and maintain SolidWorks CAD models and detailed technical drawings.
  • Create analytical documentation, including testing protocols, structural analyses, and reports.
  • Lead technical design evaluations, presenting design inputs, outputs, and outstanding issues.
  • Generate innovative ideas that enhance the company's intellectual property portfolio in endoscopic robotics and minimally invasive surgical technologies.
  • Exhibit both collaborative spirit and a high degree of self-direction.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of hands-on engineering experience.
  • Proven experience collaborating with cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to create original concepts, evidenced by a history of patents and intellectual property contributions.
  • A motivated mindset with a strong commitment to success as an engineer, within a team, and as part of the organization.
  • An inventive mindset balanced with a focus on discipline and attention to detail.
  • Experience in medical device manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of design controls necessary for product deployment in clinical settings.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in the development of articulating endoscopes and catheters.
  • Familiarity with composite materials, both in experimental and analytical contexts.
  • Experience in bringing products from concept to market.
  • Background in a start-up environment.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks software.
  • Experience in managing project schedules, budgets, and plans.
  • Significant contributions to an intellectual property portfolio, including pending or granted patents.
