Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Law Enforcement Officer to join our team at the City of Fort Oglethorpe. As a Patrol Officer, you will be responsible for enforcing laws and maintaining public safety in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol designated areas to detect and deter criminal activity, traffic violations, and other hazards.
  • Respond to emergency calls, including domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, traffic accidents, and other incidents.
  • Conduct investigations into crimes and other incidents, including gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and securing crime scenes.
  • Apprehend and arrest suspects, and process evidence for further investigation.
  • Provide assistance and backup support to other officers and emergency service providers as needed.
  • Maintain traffic control and provide direction for events such as parades, funerals, and school crossings.
  • Prepare and submit reports, including accident and incident reports.
  • Inspect and maintain assigned patrol car, uniform, and equipment.
  • Participate in required training programs and perform specialized duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Less than one year of related experience required.
  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
  • Ability to meet current requirements set forth by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council for the State of Georgia.
Working Conditions

The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, running, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee must occasionally lift light or heavy objects, use equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguish between shades of color, and use the physical force necessary to arrest and restrain persons.
