Position Overview

Role Summary: The Certified Medical Assistant is accountable for coordinating surgical appointments, engaging with patients regarding prescriptions, laboratory results, and tissue analysis, managing medical supply inventory, and ensuring adherence to OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA regulations.

ROOM PREPARATION

  • At the beginning of each day, verifies that all patient examination rooms are prepared, sanitized, and fully stocked.
  • Prepares Cryo containers as needed.

PATIENT INTERACTION

  • Accompanies patients to examination rooms, records a concise medical history as directed by the physician using the EHR system, and assists patients with disrobing when necessary.
  • Supports the physician during patient examinations, collects samples, and provides necessary supplies during visits.
  • Addresses patient inquiries when possible and refers complex questions to the physician.
  • Sanitizes examination rooms between patients, replacing table paper and cleaning surfaces as required.
  • Prepares rooms for procedures with the appropriate instruments and sterile setups, explains the procedure to the patient, and secures informed consent. Provides post-procedure wound care instructions.
  • Records all pathology specimens and lab work orders accurately.

SUPPLY MANAGEMENT

  • Safely transports used instruments to the maintenance area, ensuring compliance with safety protocols. Cleans, wraps, and sterilizes instruments as necessary.
  • Inspects rooms at the end of the day to ensure they are stocked for the following day.
  • Maintains an inventory of medical and surgical supplies, placing orders as needed.
  • Organizes the nursing station, ensuring expired medications are disposed of properly and contacting pharmaceutical representatives for additional samples when required.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Bilingual (Spanish to English) preferred.
  2. Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms, ensuring they are well-stocked with medical supplies.
  3. Welcome patients, escort them to examination rooms, gather medical histories, and document the primary reason for their visit prior to the provider's examination.
  4. Input patient visit details and care recommendations into ModMed.
  5. Notify the provider of any requests for prescription refills.
  6. Ensure that biopsy reports received by mail are uploaded to the patient's ModMed account and promptly inform the provider of any critical results.
  7. Prepare syringes for Kenalog and Lidocaine as needed.
  8. Update inventory records for medical supplies regularly.
  9. Provide coverage for the receptionist when necessary.
