Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop and conduct quality improvement studies and activities to enhance patient care and nursing services.
  2. Establish and maintain a system of administration on each unit, ensuring the giving of patient care and promoting staff satisfaction.
  3. Collaborate with other departments, agencies, and public entities to provide information related to nursing services.
  4. Communicate regularly with immediate supervisors to report on the status of activities, studies, trends, programs, resources, personnel, needs, and problems.
  5. Consult and plan with physicians and other professional staff to coordinate healthcare delivery programs.
  6. Contribute to the development of staff performance standards, monitor activities, and evaluate achievement of performance standards.
  7. Establish and maintain an organizational structure on each nursing unit, promoting effective and economic utilization of personnel and supplies.
  8. Monitor the adequacy and operability of supplies and equipment, as well as the functioning of the charge system.
  9. Provide direct patient care to serve as a role model and contribute to the learning of others.
  10. Participate in interviewing, evaluating, and recommending nursing personnel for employment and promotion.
  11. Participate in meetings with staff and conduct or participate in other meetings.
  12. Prepare documentation to support requests for continuing enhancement of nursing capabilities and make budgetary recommendations.
  13. Promote an environment that is therapeutic for patients, pleasant for personnel and visitors, and conducive to ease of communication, respectful and impartial treatment of employees and patients, and learning by staff and students.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Either three years of full-time continuous experience as a Clinical Nurse III with AHS, or two years of full-time continuous experience as a Clinical Nurse IV with AHS, or the equivalent of four years of full-time experience as a Charge Nurse or the equivalent of three years of full-time experience as a Head Nurse in a large acute facility.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from a recognized school may be substituted for one year of the required experience, and a Master's Degree in Nursing or a related field from a recognized school may be substituted for two years of experience as a Head Nurse.
  • A valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
  • Certifications such as CCRN, ACLS, TNCC, and BLS may be required per facility or unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
