Role Overview

We are in search of a skilled backend engineer to contribute to the foundational systems that drive Front. This role involves managing the pipeline that connects our platform to external entities, handling millions of events that facilitate the swift and reliable exchange of emails, SMS, and other messages. The responsibilities associated with this position carry substantial weight and influence, requiring the development of systems that are not only high-performing but also scalable and dependable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of critical services that underpin Front and spearhead architectural advancements to enhance reliability and scalability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement next-generation architecture.
  • Work closely with product managers, designers, and fellow engineers to conceptualize, develop, and test innovative product features.

Required Skills and Experience

  • A product-oriented mindset, as we are dedicated to advancing workplace efficiency.
  • Experience in developing backend systems for large-scale internet services.
  • Proficiency in dynamic programming languages such as JavaScript, Python, Ruby, or similar.
  • A proven history of launching and delivering complex projects with a high degree of ambiguity.
  • Experience in architecting, deploying, and managing asynchronous work queues and high-throughput systems.
  • Ability to navigate a fast-paced, collaborative, and rapidly evolving environment.
  • Full professional proficiency in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with software systems hosted on Amazon Web Services.
  • In-depth understanding of email protocols and relevant standards.
  • Experience in developing anti-spam mechanisms to safeguard email services.
  • Proficiency in integrating with email delivery services such as SendGrid or MailGun.
  • Familiarity with Gmail or Office 365 APIs.
  • Experience with Kafka.
