About the Role

We are seeking a seasoned Backend Software Engineer to join our team at SPAN Inc. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud-native platforms, experience with cloud-based deployments, and a passion for designing robust, scalable, and resilient systems.

The successful candidate will work closely with our cloud software engineering team to design and implement systems that integrate our hardware, mobile apps, dashboards, and external APIs. They will collaborate with product owners and other engineers to build features from start to finish.

Responsibilities include designing and developing new features and subsystems in the SPAN Cloud, working cross-functionally with product and design teams, and collaborating with firmware, frontend, and backend engineers on projects.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of engineering principles and processes, experience with cloud-native platforms, and a desire to work with TypeScript, Kotlin, and Python.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop new features and subsystems in the SPAN Cloud
  • Work cross-functionally with product and design teams
  • Collaborate with firmware, frontend, and backend engineers on projects
  • Design APIs and data specifications for internal and external users

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer with a track record of taking ownership of projects and features
  • Experience collaborating with engineers from multiple domains to complete projects
  • Experience with Cloud-native platforms like AWS, GCP, Azure (we use AWS)
  • Experience collaborating with coworkers in shared code base using industry standard tools and processes
  • Understanding engineering principles and processes to design robust, scalable, and resilient systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in one or more of the following areas: Internet of Things (IoT) products, AWS SaaS and IaaS offerings, container-based deployments, various datastores, GraphQL APIs or gRPC
  • Products with a rich mobile app
  • Infrastructure as code tools like Pulumi, Terraform, Crossplane etc.
