The role involves delivering a range of recovery-focused services to individuals engaged in a crisis stabilization program, aimed at enhancing their independence, community involvement, and recovery from mental health or substance use challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all required training sessions and meetings organized by Communicare and the Department of Mental Health.
  • Maintain certification as a Peer Support Specialist.
  • Collaborate effectively with other mental health professionals.
  • Provide tailored peer support services based on individual needs.
  • Assist in the onboarding process for new clients.
  • Facilitate transitions for clients to enhance their access to resources and support systems.
  • Enhance communication between clients and service providers.
  • Foster a deeper understanding of lived experiences, recovery, and resilience by exemplifying personal accountability, self-advocacy, and optimism.
  • Keep accurate records of services provided in client files.
  • Offer crisis support by actively listening and working with the treatment team.
  • Encourage clients to take an active and self-directed approach to their recovery journey.
  • Conduct daily group peer support sessions across all units.
  • Coordinate discharge planning for clients preparing to exit the program.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Program Coordinator/Director.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED; individuals aged 16-20 must be enrolled in school or a GED program.
  • Possess reliable transportation, a valid driver's license, automobile insurance, and a safe driving record.
  • Identify as a current or former mental health consumer with a sustained period of self-directed recovery, or be a first-degree family member of a current or former consumer.
  • Ability to successfully complete training provided by DMH and the Center.
