Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Pharmacist Intern to join our team at Trinity Health. As a Pharmacist Intern, you will play a critical role in supporting our pharmacy operations and contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare patient drug orders and deliver medications and IV admixtures to patient rooms, critical care areas, and other ancillary areas.
  • Review patient medication administration records (MAR) and care plans to determine the need to return medication to the pharmacy for credit.
  • Pick up medication orders from nursing areas and distribute them for processing.
  • Credit medications and restock usable medications/IVs returned to the pharmacy.
  • File medication orders and fill unit-dose exchange envelopes.
  • Process medication drawers and orders files for admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Assist pharmacists with audits and complete assigned unit inspections.
  • Restock automated medication dispensing machines (AcuDose or Pyxis) and enter fill stock requisitions for other departments.
  • Restock tackle boxes and cart inserts (crash carts, airway carts, latex carts) and complete the check-in/out process.
  • Communicate stock utilization and ordering needs and check medication expiration dates, alerting pharmacists when necessary.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Current enrollment in a pharmacy school or program or proof of verbal commitment to a pharmacy school or program.
  • Must be registered as a pharmacy intern with the State of Iowa at the time of hire or registered as a Technician in Training for up to 12 months until able to apply for Intern status after first day of pharmacy school or program.
  • May also be registered as a Certified Pharmacy Technician until Intern status can be obtained.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certified or obtained within three (3) months of hire.
  • Proof of completion of mandatory reporter within three (3) months of hire.
