About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Virology Expert to join our team at the Battelle National Biodefense Institute. As an Assistant Principal Investigator, you will lead laboratory research efforts focused on addressing national security questions centered on biological threats.

Key Responsibilities

  • Laboratory research on a wide range of viral agents, including virus production methodologies and analysis of viral and/or host gene or protein expression.
  • Design, implementation, and execution of virology projects, working with standard and CDC Select Agents in various containment levels.
  • Contributing to maintaining and expanding institutional capabilities, including molecular virology, eukaryotic genome editing, sequencing, and bioinformatics.
  • Preparing technical reports, proposals, presentation materials, safety plans, and other documents.
  • Utilizing software for data analysis and maintaining accurate records.
  • Ensuring compliance with regulations and policies, identifying improvements and reporting issues in safety, biosecurity, and quality compliance.

Requirements and Qualifications

  • PhD in a scientific discipline or engineering, with less than 2 years related experience.
  • Experience in designing and executing experiments for medical countermeasure applications.
  • Proficiency in molecular virology techniques, such as viral genome sequencing and PCR/RT-qPCR.
  • Knowledge of recombinant molecular biology methods, including pseudovirions and virus-like particles.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with ability to present research results in written and oral formats.
