Lifeguard I

We are seeking a highly skilled Aquatic Safety Specialist to join our team at the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners. As a key member of our aquatic safety team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons at our aquatic facilities.

• Safeguard patrons while maintaining skills at a rescue-ready level and monitoring pools for guest safety.
• Perform emergency water rescue techniques to assist persons in distress; perform CPR and administer standard first aid when necessary.
• Ensure general safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures are adhered to as it pertains to aquatic facilities.
• Assist with aquatics programs and equipment setup for special events.
• Ensure general upkeep, cleanliness, and appearance of aquatics amenities including pool areas, restrooms, showers, and deck areas.

• American Red Cross lifeguard certification or enrollment in course and attainment prior to start date.
• American Red Cross first aid certification or enrollment in course and attainment prior to start date.
• American Red Cross CPR / AED certification or enrollment in course and attainment prior to start date.

• Knowledge of water rescue methods, CPR, and first aid techniques.
• Knowledge of park rules and regulations concerning public safety.
• Ability to handle frightened or injured persons in the water.
• Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations.
• Ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly but tactfully.
• Ability to remain alert over long periods of time.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the general public.
• Ability to pass a medical skills evaluation.
