Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Aquatic Safety Specialist to join our team at the Indian River County Board of County Commissioners. As a Lifeguard I, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety of patrons at our aquatic facilities, responding to emergency situations, and providing effective care and treatment to those in need.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safeguarding Patrons: Maintain a rescue-ready level of skill and monitor pools for guest safety.
  • Emergency Response: Perform water rescue techniques, CPR, and administer first aid as necessary.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure adherence to general safety rules, regulations, policies, and procedures related to aquatic facilities.
  • Program Support: Assist with aquatics programs and equipment setup for special events.
  • Facility Maintenance: Ensure the general upkeep, cleanliness, and appearance of aquatics amenities, including pool areas, restrooms, showers, and deck areas.
Requirements
  • Certifications: American Red Cross lifeguard certification, first aid certification, and CPR/AED certification.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of water rescue methods, CPR, and first aid techniques; ability to handle frightened or injured persons in the water; ability to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations; ability to enforce rules and regulations firmly but tactfully; ability to remain alert over long periods of time; ability to maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, employees, and the general public.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to pass a medical skills evaluation and meet the physical demands of the job, including completing a swim-tread-swim sequence and a timed event within 1 minute and 40 seconds.
