Job Title: Central Control Irrigation Specialist

Job Summary:

The Central Control Irrigation Specialist will be responsible for maintaining, operating, and programming centrally controlled computerized irrigation systems. This role will also support and participate in related functions of the Parks Division's water management program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain centrally controlled computerized irrigation systems, ensuring optimal performance and water efficiency.
  • Work with Parks Division staff to resolve irrigation-related issues, make recommendations, and implement site-specific solutions.
  • Test system efficiency, utilize weather consumption data, and adjust watering schedules to optimize irrigation performance.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the Parks Division's water management program, promoting water conservation awareness.
  • Maintain records, research data, and prepare reports as required, and assist in updating procedures manuals.
  • Conduct monthly water usage reports using Microsoft Excel and collaborate with Parks Staff to identify and eliminate issues.
  • Participate in meetings, attend training seminars, and stay current with the latest techniques and technologies.
  • Perform general maintenance work, including painting, carpentry, plumbing, and minor electrical tasks.
  • Operate equipment, hand tools, and power tools, and perform tasks required to complete projects.
  • Operate heavy equipment, snowplows, blowers, backhoes, or other similar equipment as needed.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency, plus five years of experience in irrigation repair and one year in horticulture, landscape management, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of repair techniques for all types of irrigation systems, including automatic, gear-driven, cam-driven, and impact-driven sprinkler heads.
  • Ability to operate a backhoe, trencher, and other equipment used in park maintenance.
  • Knowledge of cellular, 450 MHz radio, 900 MHz radio, and Ethernet communication types, and ability to program modems or radios to communicate with the central control system.
  • Knowledge of ET-based irrigation scheduling, plant water requirements, distribution uniformity, and other components of responsible turf irrigation procedures.
  • Ability to work independently with little or no supervision.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficient with WeatherTRAK smart irrigation management systems.
  • Experience maintaining computerized irrigation systems.
  • Understanding and experience using evapotranspiration for turf watering schedules.
  • Possession of a valid Landscape Irrigation Auditor Certificate.

Working Conditions:

  • Moderately heavy physical activity, including pushing, pulling, or lifting medium weights, standing, walking, or sitting uncomfortably, and exposure to dampness, temperature extremes, fumes, dust, and grease.
  • Intermittent exposure to stressful situations due to human behavior.
  • Extended working hours may be required during peak seasons.
