Senior Software Engineer: Instrumentation and Robotics

Position Overview: We are seeking a seasoned software engineer to propel the advancement of our cutting-edge tissue processing and analytical instruments. The ideal candidate will possess a solid history of designing and developing control and sensing software for diagnostic devices or medical robotics, guiding projects from initial prototype stages to full-scale production. Familiarity with computer vision and backend development is advantageous but not mandatory. This role requires on-site presence at our San Mateo office.
Key Responsibilities:
● Design, architect, and implement software for PC control and sensing of Ruby's tissue processing and analytical devices.
● Collaborate closely with systems and mechanical engineering teams to select and design electrical control boards, motors, sensors, and other hardware components.
● Produce clean, maintainable code while documenting software designs and configurations thoroughly.
● Develop software requirements, design specifications, and testing protocols in alignment with Ruby's Quality System.
● Engage with a multidisciplinary engineering team and leadership to achieve critical technical objectives.
Essential Qualifications:
● Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline with a minimum of 3 years of industry experience, or a PhD with at least 1 year of relevant experience in mechatronic systems control and sensing.
● Proficient in PC programming languages for real-time and pseudo-real-time control (C#, C, C++).
● Demonstrated experience in architecting and developing motion control, sensing, and state machine software for diagnostic instruments or medical robots that have been brought to market.
● Strong analytical abilities paired with a creative approach to problem-solving.
● Ability to thrive in a small, agile startup environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
● Experience with OpenCV for camera sensing and computer vision applications.
● Background in early-stage medical startups.
● Familiarity with developing medical devices in compliance with FDA regulations, including risk analysis and quality assurance.
● Knowledge of motion control systems, optics, and fluid dynamics.
● Experience in developing or interfacing with backend systems for data storage and network communication.
● Proficiency in embedded firmware development.
