Job Title: Mechanical Engineering CO-OP

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering CO-OP to join our team at KFI Engineers. As a CO-OP, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects, gain hands-on experience, and develop your skills in mechanical engineering.

Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineering CO-OP will assist in the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems and equipment. This includes performing engineering calculations, creating Excel spreadsheets, and participating in meetings to provide analysis and recommendations.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform site visits to gather field information as required.
  • Conduct engineering calculations and create Excel spreadsheets for document preparation.
  • Participate in meetings to provide analysis, input, and recommendations.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of project schedules as needed.
  • Write reports and present findings effectively.
Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Displays professional engineering ethics and complies with KFI policies and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of engineering design software is preferred.
  • Treats people with respect and relates well to people regardless of their organization level, personality, or background.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Writes and presents effectively, adjusting to fit the audience and message.
  • Organized and able to manage time effectively.
  • Able to adapt to changing work demands and priorities.
  • Professional, able to represent KFI in a professional manner.
  • Willingness to travel if needed.
Working Conditions:

Some work locations may feature tough terrain typical of construction sites or require lifting or moving field testing equipment.

Work Projects by Past Interns/CO-OP:

Past interns and CO-OPs have worked on a variety of projects, including:

  • Performed in-depth analysis of actual heat loads in MCC rooms to understand cooling system design and efficiency and identify potential improvement areas.
  • Designed and conducted a long-range Utility Study that included project planning, analysis, and review of recommendations with customers.
  • Conducted an extensive energy modeling study for a new high school, as well as a large shopping mall.
  • Performed HVAC assessment and commissioning services for clients at diverse locations, including clinics, power plants, university buildings, and K-12 schools.
  • Identified energy-wasting HVAC system deficiencies for clients by analyzing past utility usage and current equipment performance, and made recommissioning recommendations based on calculated projected energy savings and payback periods.
  • Prepared an analysis of a ground-source heat pump system.
  • Developed engineering calculation tools that enhanced efficiency and accuracy of various calculations.
