Job Summary

The Certified Pharmacy Technician II provides support to the pharmacist by reviewing, compounding, and dispensing medications. This role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and quality of medication preparation and delivery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Compounds and/or prepares medications, including sterile products, oral, topical, and controlled substances, under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
  • Delivers medications to patient areas and returns unused medications to the pharmacy.
  • Documents pharmaceutical activities, including patient billing and quality control requirements, using automated and paper systems.
  • Responds to customer requests for assistance with pharmacy services, such as medication delivery and drug information.
  • Operates and supports automated dispensing technology to supply correct medications for individual patients.
  • Orders, receives, restocks, and rotates inventory, and completes expiration date management.
  • Assists with training new employees in job-specific functions.
  • Contributes to process improvement projects.
  • Completes regulatory compliance inspections of medication storage areas, including inspections and controlled substance inventories.
Requirements
  • Registration with the NC Board of Pharmacy (unless enrolled in a PharmD program).
  • CPhT certification from PTCB or ExCPT from NHA (unless enrolled in a PharmD program).
  • Prior pharmacy technician experience is preferred.
Work Environment

This position is employed by UNC Health (Rex Healthcare, Inc., d/b/a NC Health), a private, fully-owned subsidiary of UNC Health Care System.
