Job Summary:

The Sterile Processing Department Lead is responsible for the effective management of the day-to-day operations of the Sterile Processing Department. This includes ensuring the smooth flow of supplies to approximately 30 Nursing Units and Clinics. The successful candidate will be responsible for the multi-shift scheduling of 3 to 6 associates assigned to the Sterile Processing Department. Additionally, they will assist and relieve the Manager as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Meet the expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
  • Plan, organize, direct, and control the day-to-day work within the Sterile Processing Department; participate with the Charge Nurse and Clinical Manager in making departmental decisions, budgeting, and safety.
  • Assist in the interviewing process of new Sterile Processing Technicians.
  • Provide orientation for new Associates and ongoing support for continuing education and support.
  • Monitor compliance with sterilization procedures and guidelines for the department, as outlined within AMI and as outlined by Ambulatory Surgery Center Policy.
  • Develop department procedures in accordance with organizational standards to ensure the delivery of quality patient care.
  • Supervise adherence to sterilization protocols as provided in AMI Guidelines.
  • Demonstrate the ability to process instruments per manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Facilitate the coordination of Sterile Processing services with other departments, pursue innovative opportunities for improving services and reducing costs, meet with users to encourage standardization in order to obtain better pricing agreements with vendors.
  • Maximize quantity and quality of products, equipment, and services for funds expended.
  • Demonstrate competence to perform assigned responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of the members served by the department.
  • Work with the Charge Nurse in scheduling/assigning staff.
  • Adapt assigned assessment, treatment, and/or service methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each member served.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2-4 years of experience in Central Supply or Sterile Processing preferred.
  • IAHCSMM Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) or Certified Registered Central Sterile Tech (CRCST) required.
