The YMCA of Greater Grand Rapids is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Early Childhood Education Director to oversee the daily operations and administration of one or more child development centers or programs with 6 or more classrooms or a complex funding program.
Key Responsibilities- Program Management: Manage the day-to-day operation of the child development center(s) to ensure a safe, nurturing, and educational environment for children.
- Quality Standards: Maintain and improve quality standards for educational and care practices, ensuring fidelity to assessments and tools.
- Staff Management: Manage recruiting, orientating, and enrolling of children/families, in collaboration with outreach and enrollment specialist.
- Parent Communication: Advise and support parents/guardians of necessary child/family referrals, and confer with parents/guardians regarding child/ren progress, facility activities, policies, and enrollment procedures.
- Staff Development: Advise teaching staff regarding child's behavioral or learning problems, and recommend methods of modifying inappropriate behavior and encouraging learning experiences.
- Regulatory Compliance: Review and evaluate facility activities to ensure conformance to state and local regulations and licensing requirements, and maintain a positive relationship with assigned licensing consultants.
- Community Partnerships: Build and maintain community partner relationships in the facility and in the community.
- Accreditation: Lead action plans to achieve the highest accreditation standards, and support teaching staff to pursue continuing education.
- Staff Supervision: Interview, hire, onboard, and train teaching staff, in collaboration with Senior Director, Early Learning Workforce Development.
- Coaching and Mentoring: Coach and mentor assistant directors and directors of smaller centers.
- Financial Management: Monitor monthly budget and year-end forecast for responsible program areas, and assist with Annual Campaign.
- Facility Maintenance: Liaise with contracted custodial team and maintain all areas in a clean, presentable fashion.
- Emergency Response: Serve in ratio as needed to cover PTO, vacancies, or leaves of absence.
- Reporting: Prepare and draft reports for funders as requested.
- Communication: Participate in management meetings, strategic planning, and effectively cascade communication to team members.
- Education: Bachelor's degree (BA) from four-year college or university in Early Childhood Education or Child Development; 2 semester hours in child care administration; five years' experience with licensed child care management and development; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Experience: Past supervision experience preferred. Ability and desire to work with children infant to 6 years of age.
- Knowledge: Strong knowledge of state regulations and licensing requirements for childcare centers, and working knowledge of sound fiscal principals.
- Skills: Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills, and ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, and lifestyles.
- Certifications: Fingerprinting, State of Michigan criminal background clearance (ICHAT), DHS clearance, Negative T.B. test and proof of current physical exam, Blood Borne Pathogen training, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification, First Aid Certification, and AED-Oxygen Certification.
