Position Summary:

The Distribution Center Associate plays a crucial role in upholding the Family Express "Living Brand" by delivering exceptional support to team members, including drivers and warehouse staff, within a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. This position is dedicated to ensuring complete customer satisfaction, engaging in community service, and generating a return on assets that secures the ongoing success of both employees and the organization. The associate acts as a representative of the "Living Brand" by fostering strong relationships with customers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Efficiently load and unload freight, empty containers, and various products such as dairy items, sandwiches, baked goods, and general merchandise from and to the Perishable and Dry Goods trucks.
  • Prepare perishable trucks for their routes, including the removal and loading of empty containers.
  • Receive incoming products, conduct counts, and verify against the corresponding invoices, promptly notifying accounting of any discrepancies.
  • Organize products in the designated storage areas.
  • Accurately pick products to fulfill specific store orders in an efficient manner.
  • Stage products appropriately and load them onto trucks for delivery.
  • Maintain certification with a valid forklift operating license.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the dock and floor areas on a daily basis.
  • Adhere to all safety policies, practices, and procedures, reporting any unsafe activities to the supervisor and Director of Human Resources.
  • Immediately report any mechanical issues with equipment.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Role Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess reliable transportation.

Minimum Educational Requirements:
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Preferred Education:
  • High school diploma or a two-year college degree.
Essential Skills:
  • Strong organizational skills, a solid work ethic, and the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to obtain necessary training for forklift and electronic pallet jack operation.
  • Engagement in proactive team efforts to achieve departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Ability to read and interpret pick invoices.
  • Basic arithmetic skills for adding and subtracting numbers.
  • Compliance with all Family Express policies and procedures.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
  • Physical Demands: The employee is required to stand for extended periods, work shifts longer than eight hours, and perform tasks that involve reaching, climbing, balancing, twisting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. The role requires frequent lifting and/or moving of items up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Work Environment: Flexibility to work various shifts and days of the week is necessary. The role demands the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, organized, and positive environment while tolerating extreme temperatures and exposure to cleaning solvents.
