Position Title: Distribution Center Associate

Department: Distribution Center

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports to: Director of DC Operations

Position Summary

The Distribution Center Associate plays a vital role in upholding the Family Express "Living Brand" by supporting team members, including drivers and warehouse staff, in a clean, safe, and welcoming environment. This position is dedicated to ensuring customer satisfaction, engaging in community service, and contributing to the overall success of the company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Efficiently load and unload freight, empty containers, and various products such as dairy, sandwiches, baked goods, and general merchandise from and to the Perishable and Dry Goods trucks.
  • Prepare perishable trucks for their delivery routes, including the removal and loading of empty containers.
  • Receive incoming products, verify quantities against invoices, and report discrepancies to the accounting department.
  • Organize products in the appropriate storage areas.
  • Accurately pick products to fulfill specific store orders in a timely manner.
  • Stage products correctly and load them onto delivery trucks.
  • Maintain certification for operating a forklift.
  • Ensure cleanliness of the dock and floor areas on a daily basis.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, reporting unsafe conditions to supervisors.
  • Promptly report any mechanical issues with equipment.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Reliable transportation is required.
  • Must successfully pass all competency assessments.
Education Requirements
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Preferred Education
  • High school diploma or a two-year college degree.
Essential Skills
  • Strong organizational skills and a good work ethic, with the ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to undergo training to obtain a forklift and electronic pallet jack operating license.
  • Engage in proactive team efforts to meet departmental and organizational goals.
  • Ability to read and interpret pick invoices.
  • Basic arithmetic skills for adding and subtracting numbers.
  • Compliance with all Family Express policies and procedures.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Physical Demands: This role requires prolonged standing, the ability to work shifts longer than eight hours, and physical activities such as reaching, climbing, balancing, twisting, stooping, kneeling, and crouching. Employees must frequently lift and/or move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
  • Work Environment: Flexibility to work various shifts and days is necessary. The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, organized, and positive environment is essential, along with the capacity to tolerate extreme temperatures and exposure to cleaning solvents.
