Job Summary

At Food Lion, we're committed to providing a fulfilling work experience for our associates, and in return, we expect them to deliver exceptional customer service within the Center Store (Grocery) Department. As a Grocery Associate, you'll be responsible for maintaining standards, maximizing sales through excellent customer service, and minimizing shrink through proper utilization of standard practices.

About the Role

We're seeking an enthusiastic and helpful individual who can create a positive shopping experience for our customers. Your primary responsibility will be to provide quality customer service, ensuring that every customer interaction is fast, friendly, and accurate. You'll also be responsible for maintaining an atmosphere of customer awareness, being courteous and helpful to other associates, and adhering to company guidelines and policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain an environment of customer focus, with emphasis on delivering exceptional customer service.
  • Ensure accurate and efficient handling of customer transactions, responding promptly to customer inquiries and resolving any issues that may arise.
  • Perform tasks such as cleaning shelves, stocking merchandise, and maintaining shelf allocations, all while adhering to company standards and policies.
  • Assist customers with locating products, answering questions about store services, and promoting sales and promotions.
  • Collaborate with other associates to maintain a clean and organized store environment, including regular sweeping, mopping, and dusting of floors and shelves.
  • Participate in inventory management, receiving, preparing, and displaying merchandise in accordance with company policies and guidelines.
  • Understand and utilize company tools, such as the average cost inventory system (ACIS) and ordering system (CAO), to optimize inventory levels and reduce waste.
  • Maintain a complete understanding of and adherence to company guidelines, policies, and standard practices.
  • Engage with customers to understand their needs and preferences, using this information to tailor product recommendations and enhance the overall shopping experience.

Educational Requirements

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred, but not required. What's more important is your ability to learn quickly, work effectively in a team environment, and communicate clearly with colleagues and customers alike.

Physical Demands

This role requires standing for long periods, walking short distances, and performing repetitive hand and arm motions. You'll need to lift up to 15 pounds continuously, 25 pounds frequently, and 50 pounds occasionally. Additionally, you'll be able to pull or push up to 75 pounds on occasion. It's essential to meet established volume activity standards for the position, which includes frequent reaching and grasping at waist level, and occasional above-shoulder or below-waist-level reaches. You'll also need to tolerate working in extreme hot or cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time.

Estimated Salary

The estimated annual salary for this position is approximately $35,000-$40,000, depending on location and experience.
