Position Overview

The Culinary Specialist will assist in the daily operations of the dietary department within our Assisted Living facilities. The primary role involves preparing and serving nutritious and appealing meals to residents while ensuring a safe and hygienic dining environment in accordance with Assisted Living regulations and company policies.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare and cook meals following the dietary menu, documenting any necessary substitutions.
  • Ensure meals are visually appealing and palatable.
  • Prepare alternative menu options for residents with specific dietary needs.
  • Assist in the preparation, setup, and cleanup for all meals and snacks, including special events.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the dining area by clearing tables and washing dishes after each meal.
  • Complete daily and periodic cleaning tasks to keep the kitchen compliant with health regulations.
  • Respond to resident requests for special food items or snacks during and between meals.
  • Serve meals to residents, adhering to portion control guidelines.
  • Assist with inventory management, receiving, and storing food supplies.
  • Foster teamwork to deliver the highest quality dietary service focused on health and wellness.
  • Provide training and orientation for new dietary staff as needed.
  • Consistently follow dietary policies and procedures.
  • Complete required training in safe food preparation and storage, food culture, nutrition promotion, and proper handwashing within the first month of employment.
  • Promote a safe working environment by inspecting equipment prior to use.
  • Report any incidents or hazards occurring in the kitchen or dining area.
  • Adhere to infection control and universal precaution policies as necessary.
  • Respect resident rights, including privacy and confidentiality, treating all residents with dignity and respect.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Work Environment:

May encounter varying temperatures in kitchen and storage areas, and may need to lift or move equipment and supplies exceeding fifty pounds. The role requires standing for extended periods, with intermittent sitting and walking. There is a risk of falls, burns, and exposure to odors and infectious materials.

Qualifications:

  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Self-motivated and accountable for results, with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to resident concerns and a commitment to fairness.
  • Possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills with attention to detail.
  • Driving is not required for this position.
  • Medication administration to residents is prohibited.
Education and Experience:

A high school diploma or equivalent is required; culinary training is preferred. A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a kitchen environment is necessary, with prior experience in cooking and serving meals to elderly or disabled populations being advantageous. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written, is essential.

Work Schedule:

This position may be full-time, part-time, or on-call, with shifts available around the clock, seven days a week. Flexibility to respond to emergencies or unusual situations is required.

Compensation:

The hourly wage for this position is $20.00.
