Job Title: Sustaining Engineering Manager

Hatch Lighting, a leading US-based lighting power supply design firm, is seeking an experienced Sustaining Engineering Manager to oversee all sustaining engineering activities. Our company specializes in the design and manufacture of advanced electronic power supplies for lighting applications.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage ongoing production efforts of all existing Hatch product lines, including approval of product shipments based on production test data and adjusting test limits in test specifications as appropriate.
  • Implement a professional and comprehensive system for organizing, tracking, and communicating ongoing sustaining engineering activities.
  • Generate weekly reports for management that summarize production issues, AQL issues, RMA status, and other reports related to your responsibilities.
  • Work in conjunction with NPI engineering and factories to ensure a smooth transition of development projects into production.
  • Lead company configuration control/PLM activities, including modifications to design packages as required by production.
  • Build and maintain product definitions for new product development projects in our PLM system.
  • Assist as needed in NPI activities, including providing strategic input on requirements definitions for upcoming NPI projects, lab testing of prototype and pilot build units, and other related activities.
  • Lead all company UL activities, including the management of new projects, ongoing projects, and annual billing reviews.
  • Provide technical leadership to the customer service team to assist in resolving RMA issues with Hatch customers.
  • Execute and cross-train others in the engineering portion of the RMA process.
  • Execute and cross-train others in the company AQL process.
  • Maintain Hatch environmental compliance certification documents, such as REACH and RoHS, for its product line, for issuance as needed to customers.
  • Manage extended product life testing activities for ongoing production products and new product development.
  • Manage continuous improvement initiatives, cost-saving projects, and supplier evaluations.
  • Identify potential suppliers of components and equipment to support the growing needs of the business.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience with the development, testing, and manufacturing of complex electronic products.
  • Experience managing an engineering lab using industry-standard organization practices.
  • Experience in the engineering of LED drivers and lighting fixture systems.
  • A working understanding of discreet LEDs, LED modules, and their operating characteristics.
  • Experience with PLM systems, with Arena preferred.
  • Experience negotiating with suppliers.
  • Experience executing projects with UL and negotiating their pricing and fees.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • BSEE Degree.
  • Strong computer skills, including extensive experience in creating spreadsheets, presentations, and reports, and using complex PLM and ERP/MRP systems.
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience organizing and leading small engineering teams.
  • Willingness to work flexibly in a small business environment and help with unique and time-sensitive projects outside your regular duties.
