Job Summary

We are seeking skilled professionals who offer intelligence, engineering, and mission management expertise for governmental operations. This role is part of an Enterprise IT contract with a dedicated team of over 60 engineers responsible for the architecture, engineering, integration, operations, maintenance, and support of a global multi-level/multiple classification Enterprise IT environment that facilitates collaboration between domestic and international entities. If you are prepared to contribute to a high-performing team that makes a significant impact, then we invite you to consider this opportunity.

Position Responsibilities:

Our team has an opening for a Senior Systems Engineer/System Architect on our primary program. As a leader, you will bring vision, innovation, and a commitment to solving unique challenges that safeguard our nation daily. Our leaders possess experience with advanced technologies, collaboration, and transitioning ideas from requirements to execution. They guide technical decisions, architectural design discussions, systems integration, and address complex challenges. They leverage their extensive experience in advancing technology, whether at a project or organizational level, to influence technical direction. These leaders excel at interpreting customer leadership guidance and translating it into actionable plans, requirements, and strategies. They have demonstrated success in delegating resources and tasks, transforming concepts into operational capabilities, and leading by example.

The Senior Systems Engineer/System Architect will be expected to:

  • Oversee system requirements and derived requirements to ensure the delivery of production systems that align with defined system architectures (e.g., Department of Defense Architecture Framework, Service-oriented Architecture).
  • Contribute to the creation of systems engineering documentation, including System Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirements Specifications, and Interface Control Documents.
  • Assist in developing system requirements, functional requirements, and allocating these to individual hardware, software, facility, and personnel components.
  • Coordinate the resolution of action items from Configuration Control Board meetings, design reviews, program reviews, and test reviews requiring cross-discipline collaboration.
  • Engage in an Integrated Product Team to design new capabilities based on a comprehensive evaluation of development and operational considerations.
  • Allocate real-time process budgets and error budgets to systems and subsystem components.
  • Generate alternative system concepts, physical architectures, and design solutions.
  • Define the methods, processes, and evaluation criteria for verifying systems, subsystems, and work products against their requirements in a documented plan.
  • Develop system design solutions that meet system requirements and fulfill functional analysis.
  • Review and provide input to program and contract work breakdown structures, work packages, and the integrated master plan.
  • Participate in the development of systems engineering documentation, such as System Engineering Plans, Initial Capabilities Documents, Requirements Specifications, and Interface Control Documents.
  • Engage in interface definition, design, and changes to configurations among affected groups and individuals throughout the lifecycle.
  • Derive functions from system requirements and stakeholder needs that are essential for system effectiveness.
  • Develop lower-level requirements from higher-level allocated requirements that detail the functions a system component must fulfill, ensuring completeness, correctness, uniqueness, unambiguity, realizability, and verifiability.
  • Participate in establishing and gaining approval for the definition of a system or component under development (requirements, designs, interfaces, test procedures, etc.) that serves as a common reference for hardware and software developers.
  • Develop derived requirements for Information Assurance Services and Security Mechanism Technology.
  • Implement comprehensive Service-oriented Architecture solutions.
  • Review and/or approve systems engineering documentation to ensure processes and specifications meet system needs and are accurate, comprehensive, and complete.
  • Capture all interface designs in a common interface control format and store interface data in a commonly accessible repository.
  • Assess program risks and determine the probability of occurrence and quantified consequences of failure in accordance with an approved risk management plan.
  • Plan verification efforts for new and unproven designs early in the development lifecycle to ensure compliance with established requirements.
  • Prepare timeline analysis diagrams illustrating the flow of time-dependent functions.
  • Establish a formal process to control and manage changes to requirements, considering impacts prior to commitment to change, gaining stakeholder buy-in, eliminating ambiguity, ensuring traceability to source requirements, and tracking open actions.
  • Manage and ensure the technical integrity of the system baseline over time, continually updating it as changes are imposed during the lifecycle from development through deployment and operations & maintenance.
  • Support planning and test analysis of the DoD Certification/Accreditation Process.
  • Assist in the development and review of Joint Capability Integration Development System documents.
  • Provide technical direction for the development, engineering, interfacing, integration, and testing of complex hardware/software systems.
  • Develop scenarios and an Operational Concept that describes interactions between the system, the user, and the environment, satisfying operational, support, maintenance, and disposal needs.
  • Conduct quantitative analysis in non-functional system performance areas.
  • Establish and follow a formal procedure for coordinating system integration activities among multiple teams, ensuring complete coverage of all interfaces.
  • Conduct and/or approve end-to-end system trade analyses to optimize system operations over its lifecycle.
  • Utilize validated models, simulations, and prototyping to mitigate risk and reduce system development costs.
  • Ensure effective review and control of the evolving configuration of a system, both hardware and software components, during its lifecycle.
  • Serve as a member of the Configuration Control Board.
  • Develop system design alternatives considering lifecycle cost, reuse, complexity, risk, system expansion, and growth.
  • Develop alternative courses of action, workarounds, and fallback positions for each risk, monitoring and re-evaluating risks at appropriate milestones.
  • Maintain knowledge of current and evolving agency, national, and international standards applicable to system development.
  • As a participant in an Analysis of Alternatives effort, recommend a preferred solution based on selection criteria adjusted for reasonableness and validity of assumptions.
  • Provide technical direction for the development, engineering, interfacing, integration, and testing of all components of complex hardware/software systems.
  • Improve standard integration strategies based on previous decisions that resulted in enhanced integration performance.
  • Fully define interfaces in terms of origination, destination, stimulus, and data characteristics for software and hardware.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in System Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering Science, Engineering Management, or a related discipline from an accredited institution is required. Five (5) years of additional Systems Engineering experience may substitute for a bachelor's degree.
  • Twenty (20) years of experience as a Systems Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning and leading Systems Engineering efforts is required.
  • One (1) year of the total experience must be within the Federal Government.

Certification:

  • Must possess a Security + certification.

Position requires active Security Clearance with appropriate Polygraph.
