The Pearson Virtual Schools Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team is seeking a Lead Cloud Solutions Architect to enhance our applications that have transitioned from traditional data centers to cloud environments.

In this role, you will collaborate with software development, rapid response, and incident management teams to design and implement highly available and scalable systems within AWS and Azure platforms.


Location:
Raleigh/Durham, NC - Hybrid position with a combination of in-office and remote work

Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with engineering teams to determine and execute the most effective cloud-based solutions utilizing AWS.

Address complex technical challenges.

Demonstrate the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision when necessary.

Enhance performance, scalability, and resilience of the platform.

Manage critical incidents, lead post-incident reviews, and ensure thorough resolution of issues.

Contribute to the establishment of best practices for Infrastructure as Code, software development tools, and Continuous Integration processes.

Oversee the operation and maintenance of Pearson Cloud systems.

Administer cloud services, including monitoring, logging, and alerting functionalities.

Facilitate automation services and scripting for cloud deployments and migrations.

Minimize repetitive tasks through automation.

Support applications across multiple cloud environments (AWS and Azure).

Participate in a 24/7 on-call support rotation.

Qualifications - Preferred Experience:
5+ years of experience in architecting, designing, developing, and deploying cloud solutions on AWS.

In-depth knowledge of AWS services such as EC2, ECS, IAM, CloudWatch, Lambda, FSx, ECR, S3, EFS, Route53, and Elasticache.

Experience with Infrastructure as Code tools like CloudFormation or Terraform.

Familiarity with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

Advanced skills in automating tasks and services using languages like PowerShell, Python, Ruby, Go, or bash.

Experience with Linux and Windows Server Operating Systems, Active Directory, and IIS.

Strong understanding of the five pillars of well-architected frameworks.

Experience in monitoring cloud systems using tools like NewRelic, CloudWatch, or Datadog.

Ability to debug and optimize code, as well as automate routine processes.

Familiarity with agile software development methodologies, including tools like Jira.

Proficient in version control systems such as Git.

Experience with programming languages such as C#, Java, or Golang.

Experience in designing, analyzing, and resolving issues in large-scale distributed systems.

Strong knowledge of networking protocols and cybersecurity best practices in cloud environments.

A systematic approach to problem-solving, combined with excellent communication skills and a strong sense of ownership.

Experience in building CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps and GitHub.

Preferred Qualifications:
AWS Solution Architect Associate certification is a plus.

HashiCorp Terraform certification is also desirable.


Compensation at Pearson is influenced by various factors including skill set, experience level, and specific location.

As required by applicable laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary range is between $120k-140k.

This position is eligible for an annual incentive program, and information on benefits is available.
