Job Overview

Position Summary: The Substance Abuse Counselor plays a crucial role in providing comprehensive support and guidance to individuals struggling with addiction. This position is vital in fostering recovery and promoting well-being within the community.

Qualifications:

  1. Valid Certification or Registration with recognized certifying organizations in California (e.g., CCAPP, CAADE) is mandatory. Registrants must achieve certification within five years of registration as per DHCS regulations.
  2. A minimum of three (3) years of experience in active recovery initiatives is required.
  3. Preferred: At least two years of experience in a counseling role focused on substance abuse.
  4. Knowledge of evidence-based treatment approaches tailored for women in recovery is essential.
  5. A valid California driver's license is necessary.
  6. Bilingual candidates are preferred.

Core Responsibilities:

  1. Deliver both group and individual counseling services aimed at substance use treatment and recovery.
  2. Conduct assessments and develop treatment plans tailored to client needs.
  3. Proficiently utilize electronic health record (EHR) systems for documentation and tracking.
  4. Maintain a manageable caseload as the primary counselor for clients.
  5. Ensure comprehensive clinical documentation adheres to agency standards and regulatory requirements.
  6. Collaborate with referral agencies and community organizations to coordinate client treatment.
  7. Gather and analyze outcome data, including client satisfaction metrics, as mandated by the agency.
  8. Implement program objectives to fulfill contractual obligations and productivity standards.
  9. Participate in regular peer review sessions.
  10. Uphold infection control protocols and maintain a safe environment.
  11. Administer urine and/or saliva tests for clients as required.
  12. Utilize de-escalation techniques effectively to manage crises.
  13. Administer the Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) to assess and mitigate suicide risk.

Additional Duties:

  1. Attend all mandatory meetings and training sessions.
  2. Report any suspected abuse or neglect of children or vulnerable adults to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
  3. Notify supervisors of any client presenting imminent danger to themselves or others.
  4. Perform other related duties as assigned.
